About MLM

Multi-Level Marketing, or Network Marketing, is a marketing strategy used by Direct Selling companies to expand their sales force and sales volume. "Multi-level" refers to the Compensation Plan. Company representatives earn commissions not only on product sales they make directly, but also on multiple levels of representatives that they helped introduce to the company in a social network like fashion. The number of earning levels and the type and structure of network vary from company to company.

The term multilevel marketing originally referred to the distribution channel of getting a product from a selling company to the end consumer. A selling company would work with a few higher level representatives and send them accumulated product orders. These high level representatives would then receive, inventory, and repackage the orders for distribution to others. An individual order may have gone through several people or "levels" before it reached the actual person who ordered it. In some cases, representative commission checks were also handled this way. After the advent of UPS and later other national and regional shipping companies, selling companies were then able to work directly with each individual company. Originally, this concept was called "Consumer Direct Marketing", but the only difference was the way an ordering customer interacted with their order. Today, nearly all MLM companies operate under the consumer direct marketing business model.

Whether you call it Multi-Level Marketing (MLM), Network Marketing, Referral Based Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, or Consumer Direct Marketing, the concept is nearly the same. You are talking about a company that builds its sales force by allowing independent representatives to build a home based business.

Companies

The following companies are known to offer a multi-level compensation plan. A listing on this site is not an endorsement of a company or it's legality. Unfortunately many illegal schemes promote themselves as Multi-Level or Network Marketing companies in an effort to convince people of their legitimacy. While not the sole distinguishing factor, one simple difference is that in legitimate companies, profit and income is earned primarily through the sale of legitimate products to legitimate end-users. In fraudulent companies and pyramid schemes, profit may be earned through recruiting or head-hunting fees.
